It's the year 2025. We outsourced half of our brainpower to AI and surrendered
the other half to endless (social) media feeds long ago. Yet somehow, we still
manage to lock in deep and send rockets to Mars, cure incurable diseases, and
eat 83 hotdogs in 10 minutes. We are serious people. We update LinkedIn
profiles. We are funny people. We grow vegetables in our backyard to become
precisely 1% self-sufficient. We will cure cancer. And we will macro-dose our
way through another week at Burning Man. Tragically, we're also pretty good at
destroying each other with words, guns, toxic waste, and, oh yeah, nuclear
warheads. We've figured out how to rush towards utopia and dystopia on the same
timeline. We pray to God, and we play God. We're an experiment. We're the
Protomensch.

FT. THE KITE STRING TANGLE
“Open Fields” are the places, literal or imagined, where you can meet versions of yourself (past, future), loved ones who have passed, or people who feel distant. More broadly, they’re a metaphorical playground for personal meaning-making. If our track “Warum” asks why do we exist?, “Open Fields” replies: I can’t give you the answer, but here’s the only patch of reality where you can actually plant something. They’re the blank canvas where potential takes root - an existential clearing where your choices grow meaning into being, regardless of creed or creed-lessness.

FT. PET DEATHS
We must use and we must abuse. We reach for comfort with one hand and destruction with the other. Salvation and sedation - sometimes the pill is the prayer. We’re built to chase highs, even when the crash is inevitable. The cure is also always a curse. We are the cure and the curse.

In this episode we transform from builder to breaker, creator turned annihilator. Nietzsche nailed it 140 years ago: “If a temple is to be erected, a temple must be destroyed: that is the law.” And if we look around us, he’s still correct with this statement today. Can we ever reach escape velocity to break this pattern, or are we doomed as poop-flinging, raging chimps in a fancy designer turtleneck?

There are more messengers than messages. Who do you trust when everyone has a megaphone? Once, a prophet could shout from a mountain and be believed. Today, in an infinity of data, some of us believe everything we read online, some, nothing at all: “The Virgin Mary is pregnant.” Source: @gabriel_1BC. It's the human impulse: not to know, but to believe. Facts are verifiable, but faith is faster.

“Warum” is the German word for “why”. Asking why questions is the first thing we do as a child and one of the last things we do on our deathbed. Asking why is the motor that drove us to where we got to as a species. At the same time, not asking why often enough or asking the wrong questions seems to be pushing us to the brink of self-extinction. It's absurd. And it's beautiful.

ABOUT
The duo's 2025 album "Protomensch" explores humanity's paradox of being an idiotic genius—caught between innovation and world-destruction, empathy and genocidal hatred—all wrapped in a beautiful layer of love and absurdity.
